New Figures Show Welsh Housing Market Beats Rest of the UK with Price Increases
The LSL Welsh House Price Index has found that Wales is the only region outside Greater London to experience an overall price increase (0.7%) last year. LSL Property Services have compiled sales figures from all property transactions in Wales and found that a consecutive price increase over the past six months has made the area one of the most resilient in the UK. The prime market has led the field is spite of economic woes, with some areas such as the Vale of Glamorgan seeing increases of up to 10% in value. Equity rich investors and retirees have driven up prices as with the most desirable period properties seeing the greatest price increase.
Carol Peett, Director of national home-finding service County Homesearch’s Welsh office, comments on the good news for the prime Welsh housing market:
“These figures match our experience on the ground with a substantial increase in enquiries compared to this time last year. The Welsh market has proven not only resilient, but has also established itself as a prime area for future investment.
“Whilst the rest of the UK suffers acute housing shortages, there is a ready supply of good housing stock with high quality homes available. As financial market uncertainty continues we have seen the appeal of solid land and property investment draw buyers to Wales. The stunning coastal areas of West Wales have long been a holiday rival to Cornwall, but lower prices and greater supply have pushed sales even further this year.
“With high speed broadband even more remote homes can become offices, we recently sourced a property for a client based in Bristol, with many more seeking a change of lifestyle without compromising careers. Wales offers the beauty and good housing stock of areas such as the Cotswolds, without the lack of supply and inflated prices.”
